Carol Sams

Work produced by Carol Sams from 1973-1989 defines the essence of all her work to follow. As the artist emerged, her work evolved in media, in imagery, and in theme. Juridic exhibitions earned Carol awards from the Tennessee Watercolor Society and the Southern Watercolor Society, as well as an invitation to exhibit in the 41st and 44th Butler Institute of American Art Annual Exhibitions, and the Allied Artist of America, Inc. 65th Annual Exhibition, in New York in 1978. Many works from the "The Civil War Series" are found in private collections around the country.

Life itself has been and remains Carol's major resource. She feels essence rather than sees simple form. Her refusal to translate and define her experiences in a traditional way forces its way into her expression. The work will reflect landscape, natural patterns in rock formations, horizons, vapor clouds, wood, and even the smell of existence. Expressive, animated and often subtle, the artist explores theme through carefully chosen combinations of media.

In 1997 Sams began a full time devotion to painting through her studio Square One.

In addition to the many hours spent as artist and designer, Carol is also painting instructor, avid reader, traveler, collector and golfer.

She enjoys attending vintage racecar events around the world with her husband, Bob Schreiber, an automobile racing enthusiast and vintage racecar restorer.
